Design and Knit Your Own Fair Isle Scarf Workshop There has been a huge resurgence of Fair Isle designs on the High Street this year, from Vests to Sweaters, Cowls and Scarves. If you been smitten with the gorgeous colours and patterns then why not join us for a Design Your Own Fair Isle Scarf Workshop? The workshop itself with take place over 2 hours, this will be ample time to introduce you to the principles of Fair Isle, allow you to start designing your own pattern and have you casting on your scarf. You will learn how to work the design pattern and choose colours to ensure harmony.  The intricacies of Fair isle will be de-mystified, explanations will be given for securing all those yarn ends (using traditional methods or modern alternatives), calculations made for width and length, how to knit Fair isle in the round and much more. After the initial 2 hour workshop there will be monthly meet-ups (no charge) on the 2nd Thursday of each month to exchange news and progress, ideas and inspiration and to reinforce the community bond that forms from fellow-crafters, plus you get to eat Cake !!  Expectation is to have final meet-up on 8th October, where we can all proudly wear or display our beautiful creations. You can use any yarn & needle size you like, just bear in mind the choices will effect the finished size.  I suggest a 4ply yarn and 3.25mm needles, Spindrift (by Jamieson’s of Scotland) is an excellent choice for this project – it is available in a incredibly wide choice of colours & is very reasonably priced, it wears beautifully and lends itself to Fair Isle. It is the choice of many famous knitwear designers for Fair isle work too. My preferred knitting method for this is magic-loop but it can be achieved with DPNS, or even short circular needles (dependent on yarn thickness), don’t worry if this is all new to you as we cover these options within the workshop. If you really, really don’t want to design your own scarf but would like to partake of the workshop & group meet-ups you can choose a suitable pattern (try Ravelry or designers like Marie Wallin or Kaffe Fassett have beautiful patterns) and work from that instead.
